Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, Tokio and his wife Suye were among more than 120,000 Japanese Americans forcibly relocated into American concentration camps. More than 10,000 people were incarcerated at Amache in the following years, making it the tenth largest "city" in Colorado at the time. There, Ueyama taught adult art classes to 150 students. This exhibition tells a story of a time in Colorado’s history, of a place where Americans experienced dislocation and loss, and, more importantly, displayed unimaginable resilience, tenacity, and creativity in the face of prejudice. Click for more info!After 20-30 minutes of instruction, students will then spend the rest of their time on the pottery wheels with our talented instructor circling throughout the evening to support each person in keeping at least one piece (you may keep 2 pieces, max). At the end of this workshop, you'll choose one color from our selection of glazes, and a Clay Hub team member will glaze your piece for you. Fired and finished peices will be ready for pick up 3-4 weeks after your workshop. All glazes are dinnerware safe, ready to eat or drink out of, or even put in the dishwasher or microwave!
